Leon Orlando Anderson was born September 3, 1905 in Madison Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa to John and Sylvia(Hopperstad) Anderson. He died June 29, 1989. Funeral services were held July 1, 1989 at Madison Lutheran Church in Ridgeway, Iowa with the Rev. Phillip Olson and Ginny Olson, associate ministry, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were Pete Ask, Clayton Haugen, Ronald Hovey, Lauren Iverson, Clifford Kjos, and Chuck Larson.

Leon attended rural schools in Winneshiek County. On May 1, 1932 he married Tinka Haaland at the Madison/Lincoln parsonage. They farmed in Madison Township before retiring and moving to Waukon, Iowa in June of 1979. Tinka died February 16, 1981. Leon was a life-long member of Madison Lutheran Church where he held various offices.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Stella Hovey and Angeline Benson, and two brothers, Ernest Anderson and Oliver Anderson.

Survivors are his children: Darla Bakken, Arden Anderson, both of Decorah, Iowa, Sylvie Lundeen of Bloomington, Minnesota, Terry L. Anderson of Brasilia, Brazil, and Rose Mary Mehl of New Brighton, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
