Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Ruth B. Buddenberg, 85, a former area teacher, died Saturday evening, March 25, 1989, at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, Iowa. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 29 at 11 a.m. Celebrant was the Rev. Robert Hirsch at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, Iowa. Interment was in the Bloomfield Cemetery, Castalia, Iowa. Casket bearers were Bill Buddenberg, Davis Buddenberg, Oran Engelhardt, Randy Buddenberg, Doug Buddenberg, and Robert Cowles.
Ruth B. Buddenberg, daughter of Thomas and Della (Vance) Boyle, was born November 11, 1903 at Ossian, Iowa. She attended Ossian De Sales School, Upper Iowa University, Fayette and Luther College, Decorah, Iowa. She taught rural schools in Bloomfield and Military townships; public school at Volga and Catholic Schools at Festina and Ossian. She retired in 1971.
On May 1, 1923 she married Elmer L. Buddenberg at Clermont, Iowa. From 1923 until 1929 they farmed in rural Castalia. From 1929 until 1979 she made her home in Castalia. Elmer died on January 13, 1969. In the fall of 1979 Ruth became a resident of the Aase Haugen Care Center in Decorah, Iowa. She was a member of St.Francis DeSales Parish and St. Francis Rosary Society.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; three brothers, Rollin, Rodney, and Joe Boyle; and two sisters, Ramona and Roine.
Survivors include her son, Rodney and daughter-in-law Irene Buddenberg of Des Moines, Iowa and a sister, Mrs. Ray (Bebe) York of Rochester, Minnesota; three grandchildren Kim Humpal, Kris Buddenberg, and Kay McCurdy; 2 great-grandchildren, Adam and Angela Humpal.
