Hjalmer B. Vine, 87, of Decorah, Iowa died Monday August 7, 1989 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday August 9 at Decorah Lutheran Church. Pastor John V. Halvorson officiated. Burial was in Lutheran Cemetery with Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah in charge of arrangements.
Casket bearers were Cal Drew, Jim Iverson, Greg Mitchell, Clyde Quandahl, Charles Vine, and Randy Vine.

Hjalmer was born November 2, 1901 in Madison township to Albert and Anna (Benson) vine and attended rural Winneshiek County Schools. On December 10, 1924 he married Ida Moen at the Decorah Lutheran parsonage. She died in January 1965. He farmed in Winneshiek County all his life, retired to Decorah in 1966 and moved to Waukon in 1980. He was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church and IOOF Lodge.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son Raymond, three brothers, two sisters, and a grandson.

Surviving are four children, Mrs. Robert (Irene) Drew of Decorah, Iowa, Donald Vine and Harold Vine, both of Waukon, Iowa, and Roger Vine of Independence, Iowa; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a brother, Lloyd of Decorah, Iowa.
