Funeral services for Vernon A. Meyer were conducted at 11 a.m. at the West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, Iowa by the Rev. Donald Loots. He was 85 years old and passed away on February 5, 1989. Pallbearers were Terry Stumme, Neal Brainard, Ron Heidt, Alan Meyer, Kenton Groth, and Milton Koenig. Interment was in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia, Iowa.

Vernon Meyer was born January 11, 1903 in Clayton County to August and Lena (Hulverson) Meyer. He was baptized in 1903 in a Lutheran Church in Elkader, Iowa. In 1926 he was confirmed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. He attended school in Castalia, Iowa.

On January 11, 1926 he married Lenora Nesvik. They became the parents of two children. Lenora died October 7, 1939. On May 21, 1950 he married Hazel Johnson. She died in 1957. On July 13, 1959 he married Helen Hatch. She died December 17, 1965.

For about four years, Mr. Meyer farmed near Ossian, Iowa before moving to Clermont, Iowa where he became the manager and lineman for the Clermont Telephone Exchange. He also was a bus driver and a carpenter for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; two sisters, Esther Schultz and Vera Buddenberg; and two brothers, Walter Meyer and Orvil Meyer.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. LaVern (Arthel "Sally") Stumme of Postville, Iowa; one son, Gordon Meyer also of Postville; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one step-daughter, Donna Halderman of Florida; and one sister, Inez Schoonmaker.
