Luella Josephine Solheim
Luella Josephine Solheim, 93, Castalia, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, Iowa. Luella was born on August 22, 1917, in rural Castalia, Iowa, to Laurie and Josephine (Walvatne) Osterhus. Luella attended country schools.
Luella was united in marriage to George Solheim on March 29, 1944, at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Ossian, Iowa. Seven children were born to this union. Luella raised her family on the farm where she was born and lived most of her life. For 27 years, she ran Lou's Upholstery, recovering everything from couches to kitchen chairs and tractor seats. She was a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where she was an active member and loved taking care of the kids in the nursery. She loved flowers, baking, gardening, reading Bible stories to and spending time with her grandkids. She was an excellent cook and always had an endless supply of popsicles for grandkids. "Grandma Lou" will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband, George Solheim, Castalia; seven children, David (Linda) Solheim, Clermont, Donald (Kathryn) Solheim, Castalia, Philip (Sheila) Solheim, Clermont, Wanda (Peter) Tweed, Ossian, Kermit (Robin) Solheim, Cedar Rapids, Linda (Steve) Dunt, Ossian, Deborah (Todd) Bovy, West Union; twenty grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Nick Solheim, Darin Solheim; one great-grandchild, Andrew Solheim and four siblings, Clarice Hilgerson, Clifford Osterhus, Richard Osterhus and Ida Barness.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 29, 2010, at 10:30 am at the Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Ossian, Iowa. Pastor Marshall Nessa will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in rural Ossian, Iowa.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 28, 2010, from 2-6 pm at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Clermont, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Clermont, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
