Gwendolyn Rae Koenig, 82, Marion, Iowa, formerly of Castalia, Iowa, died Saturday, November 27, 2010, at Village Ridge Assisted Living in Marion, Iowa. George and Esther (Meyer) Schultz were the proud parents of Gwenn born on August 12, 1928, in Iowa City. She attended Castalia Grade School and graduated from Postville High School in 1946.

Gwenn was united in marriage to Milton Frederick Koenig on November 17, 1948, at her parents' home in Castalia. Four children were born to this union. Gwenn taught rural school from 1948 to 1952. She was also a nurses aid at the Good Samaritan Home from 1978 to 1988. She was very proud of the Christian family that she had raised with Milton.

Gwenn was involved in Winneshiek Co. Historical Society, Bloomfield Township Historical Society, Winneshiek Genealogy Society, Farm Bureau Winneshiek Co. Women, Women's Extension Service, WELCA, 4-H, Oak Hill Club and KEWS. She was a member of the United Brethern Church and Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. She had many fond memories, since she saw everyday as a blessing. She enjoyed spending time with her family and pets. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her four children, Suzanne (Keith) Muller, Walford, Melissa Hammersland, Marion, Laurice (Michael) Tallman, Castalia, Kyle (Kristina) Koenig, Lakeville, MN; twelve grandchildren, Ryan (Kara) Muller and Casey (Cathy) Muller, Shanna (Anas) Afana, Lisa (Brian) Schadler, Blake (Connie) Schultz, Kari (Michael) Bossom, Kirstin (Ryan) Doughan, and Haley, Sophia, Olivia, Madeline and Abigail Koenig; four step-grandchildren, Justin (Melissa) Muller, Anthony Tallman, Benjamin (Gisele) Tallman, Lindsay Tallman; twelve great-grandchildren, Nader and Danah Afana, Mya and Mikala Schadler, Logan and Marissa Schultz, Tyler, Kalli, Koal, and Ashli Bossom, Kyra and Avery Doughan; six step great-grandchildren, Danielle, Jennifer and Courtney Marquardt, Ashley, Austin, and Alyssa Muller.

Gwenn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milton Koenig and her sister, Norma Stortz.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa. The Rev. Dave Lenth will officiate.

Inurnment will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Castalia, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 29, 2010, from 3-7 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa.
