Spencer R. Tyler, 75, Decorah, Iowa died Thursday *This newspaper did not list the date of death. Based on the back of the clipping, and his age at the time of death, his death probably occurred between March 5, 1989 and April 12, 1989* at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness.

Services were Monday at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah at 10:30 a.m. by the Rev. Richard Sansgaard. Pallbearers were Roger Morris, Russell Nelson, Kenneth Bergan, Harley Fagerlie, Bob Mundt, George Pfister, Carson Steen, and Loren Bedwell. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa.

Mr. Tyler was born March 5, 1914 at Decorah to Ida Margreta (Shimming) and Albert Leonard Tyler. Mr. Tyler was a 1933 graduate of Decoarh High School. He took a correspondence course at the Lincoln Extension Institute through John Deere of Waterloo, Iowa. He was promoted from working in the shop to a senior engineering analyst. He retired from John Deere Tractor Works in 1974 after 39 years.

On August 14, 1943 he enlisted in the armed service. He was a radio operator and served in the Western Pacific and South Philippines in World War II. He had married Eileen Vivian Lee on June 27, 1940 at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah. They became the parents of three children.

He was known for his love of music. In high school he was in the school band. He was also in the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps. He sang in the church choir at Zion Lutheran Church, Waterloo and with the Melodeeres while working at John Deeres. While living in Arizona, he played in the Patio Band. After moving back to Decorah, he was in the Uplifters at the County Care Facility. He also had his own band called the Moonlighters. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion and AMVETS.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Edith Evenrud and one son, Gary, in infancy. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Phil (Linda) Schreiner of San Ramon; one son, Steven of Memphis, Tennessee; four grandsons, Daniel and Douglas Schreiner and Adam and Whitney Tyler.
