Former Decorah residents Orlando C. Scholl, 71, died November 6, 1989 in California. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. November 9 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Long Beach, CA. Pastor Schowalter officiated and burial was in Green Hills Memorial Park in San Pedro, CA. Casket bearers were James Dye, Charles Iverson, Victor Penman, Bud Person, Randy Pikop, Terry Pikop, Curt Seiple and Frank Seiple.

He was born March 23, 1918 in Franklin Township, Winneshiek County to Oscar D. and Clara (Steen) Scholl. He was baptized and confirmed at Pontopidden Lutheran Church, Glenwood Township. After his formal education, he apprenticed as a painter for his uncle, John Scholl. Five years later he left Decorah and moved to Long Beach in January 1942. During WWII he worked as a painter in the naval shipyards. After the war he worked as a house painter. He worked as a painter for 49 years before retiring.

On December 6, 1958 he married Olga Halverson Hagemeier. She died November 23, 1982. On February 11, 1984 he married Doris Johnson Pikop.

He was a member for 45 years at Our Savior's Lutheran Church where he held many offices and was active in many church functions. He was also a member of Fridtjof Nansen Sons of Norway Lodge 9 in Long Beach and American Federation of Labor Painters' Union.

Survivors include three step-sons, two step-daughters, and 12 step-grandchildren.
