Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services were held Saturday, October 7, 1989 at 2 p.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church for Amanda Regina Steele of Decorah, Iowa. Burial was in East Glenwood cemetery. The Rev. Landis Olson officiated and French and Balik Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Leo Nagel, Dean Stegen, Melvin Borseth, Randy Nagel, Ronnie Stegen, and Lyle Steele.
Amanda died Wednesday, October 4, 1989 at the age of 90 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.She would have turned age 91 on October 20th. She was born October 20, 1898 in rural Caledonia, MN to Mathias and Anna Borgord Verket Stegen. Amanda attended rural grade schools. As a child she lived in southern Minnesota and then rural areas around Decorah. On February 21, 1927 she married Harold Steele at the Decorah Lutheran Church parsonage. She was a housewife, a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church and the Glenwood church circle.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin Raymond Steele of Decorah and Harold Steele of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four daughters, Norma Dady of Des Moines, Harriet Fayne of Colorado Springs, CO, LaVerne Paidar of Mechanicsville, Iowa, and Juanita Prideaux of Sumner; a brother Herman Stegen of Mable, MN; 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Harold, who died in 1985; a son Leslie; a daughter Lillian Schreiber; five brothers, Hans, Peter, Mervin, Anton and Arnold Stegen and a sister, Alma.
