A funeral Mass for Regina Berns was held Saturday, January 11, 1986, 10:30 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville, Iowa. Rev. Paul Otting officiated assisted by Rev. Robert Hirsch of Calmar and Rev. A.A. McAvoy of Dubuque. Mass servers were John and Jim Berns. Special music was provided by Sisters of St. Francis, Rochester, MN. Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in St. Francis DeSales Cemetery at Ossian, Iowa.

Regina A. Berns, daughter of Henry and Johanna (Zweibohmer) Funke, was born June 5, 1910 near Ossian. She died January 7, 1986 at her home in Postville. She attended the St. Francis DeSales School at Ossian. On September 12, 1933 she was married to Eugene G. Berns at St. Francis De Sales Church. They were the parents of 8 children. They farmed on the Garnavillo, Ossian, and Lawler areas until 1948 when they moved to a farm north of Postville. In 1967 she moved to town.

She is preceded in death by her husband, who died July 22, 1959, her parents, three brothers, Joe, Hugo, and Raymond, and a sister Lorraina.

Surviving are 3 sons, Robert and his wife, Susan of Park Ridge, IL, Roger and his wife, Kathy of Chicago, IL, and Gerald and his wife, Ruth of Bangor, WI; 5 daughters, Arlene (Mrs. Ned Kehrli) of Tulare, CA, Jean Ann (Mrs. VerDean Radloff) of Postville, Sister Geneva Berns, OSF of Minneapolis, MN, Lois (Mrs. Henry Snyder) of Independence, IA, and Bernice (Mrs. John Urseth) of St. Cloud, MN; 19 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and 3 sisters, Rose Lechtenberg of Calmar, IA, Sister Giovanni Funke, OSF of Holy Cross, IA and Marcella Funke of Ossian.

She was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters of America. The V.F.W. Auxiliary, West Post Project Club, Senior Citizens and numerous community and social clubs.

Casket bearers were Dustan Berns, Michael Berns, R.J. Berns, Craig Radloff, Charles Radloff, Richard Radloff, and Daniel Jones.

Honorary casket bearers were Elmer Blumhagen, William Livingood, Emil Schultz, Ray Zweibohmer, Willard Snitker, and James Ewing.
