Funeral services for Brett Buddenberg were held Sunday January 5, 1986 at 1:30 p.m. at St.Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. H.W. Wolfgram officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery near Castalia, Iowa.

Brett David Buddenberg, son of Bill and Madeline (Rawson) Buddenberg, was born April 9, 1965 at Decorah,Iowa. He died December 28, 1985 at the Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. He was baptized August 9, 1965 and confirmed February 12, 1984, both at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. He graduated from the South Winneshiek School in 1983. Brett had been farming with his parents. On November 3, he entered the US Marine Corps and was stationed in San Diego.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Harold Rawson and paternal grand parents Melvin and Vera Buddenberg.

Surviving are his parents, three brothers, Randy of Decorah and Doug and Bruce of Castalia and a sister, Lynn, at home; his maternal grandmother, Naida Rawson of Castalia.

Casket bearers were Battery D-2nd Division - 14th Marines. Honorary bearers were Lenny Imoehl, Mark Imoehl, Chad Breitsprecher, Dave Bohr, Joe Bullerman, Troy Breitsprecher, Brian Uhlenhake, Grant Breitsprecher, Scott Meyer, Roger Moellers, Dennis Linderbaum, Alan Hegeman, Andy Herges, Jake Ludeking, and Danny Schnuelle.
