Tom Allen, age 96 years, 6 months and 10 days, passed away Thursday morning at his home in Hesper, Iowa.

John Thomas Allen was born at Grafham, England, April 23, 1871. The son of John and Susan (Darrington) Allen. At the age of three years he came to America with his parents and two sisters and has resided in Winneshiek County, Iowa his entire life.

He was baptized in the Episcopal Church in England.

He was united in marriage to Emma Forde, February 27, 1906. To this union six children were born -- Mrs. Olaf (Esther) Henningsgaard, Inglewood, Calif.; Lester Allen, Decorah, Iowa; Vernon Allen, Spring Grove, Minn.; Mrs. Bernice Henningsgaard, Irvin Allen and Mrs. Melvin (Doris) Newgard, Mabel.

Survivors are his wife; six children; two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Welch, Caledonia; Mrs. Esther Johnson, Boulder, Colorado; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hesper Lutheran church. The Rev. Allen Hermeier officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

The Mengis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
