Anna Darrington, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Darrington, was born in Highland township January 16, 1863, and departed this life May 22, 1946, at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 6 days.
She was united to William R. Welch at Decorah, Iowa, February 21, 1883. Four children were born to this union, Willie, Frankie, Fannie (Mrs. Lawrence Iverson) and Charles passing away in infancy.
She has been in failing health for six months.
She is survived by three children and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. John Drake of Florence, S.D.; Mrs. Flo Hackett of Mabel; Jack Darrington of Minneapolis and Frank Darrington of Mabel.
The funeral services for Mrs. Welch, which were held Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Iverson and the Hesper Friends church, were attended by a very large number of relatives and friends. The Rev. T.G. Brown, pastor of the Friends church officiated.
The pall bearers were nephews of the deceased, namely, Fred, Wilard, William and Clifford Darrington, Guy and Norval Nelson.
Several selections were sung by Mr. and Mrs. Granville Street, Miss Carol Hawks and Mr. Leland White, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. W. Bielske.
In memory of the beloved pioneer of Hesper a large number of floral offerings and gifts of money to the Friends church and Hesper cemetery were given.
Mrs. Welch was laid to rest in the Hesper cemetery.
