From the Decorah Republican of 5 March 1914

A Pioneer Passes Away.

Mrs. Fanny Kew Darrington was born at Thistleton, England, Aug. 27, 1831, and died at her home in Hesper, Iowa, Feb. 25, 1914, aged 82 years, 5 months and 29 days. In 1855 she removed to Rockford, Ill., and there was united in marriage to Joseph Darrington Nov. 13, 1856. They moved into Highland township, Winneshiek county, Iowa, and settled on a farm, on which she resided until 1892, when she moved into Hesper, Iowa, her husband having departed this life in 1882. Beside many neighbors and friends who will miss her she leaves two sisters, one brother, ten children, all of whom were present at the funeral except one daughter, who resides in Montana, and one sister at Rockwell, Iowa. There are also thirty-seven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

The funeral services were held from the Friends church in Hesper at two o'clock Sunday afternoon. It is conceded that the congregation attending was the largest one ever convened in the present church building. Pastor H.C. Carter spoke from the text, "What is Your Life" showing life here at the longest is but short. Earthly life passes as a vapor. Spirit life is eternal. Floral offerings covered the beautiful casket and were rich in beauty and perfume. One pillow was "Mother" another "Grandma"
