Fred Henry Allen Passed Away Friday, Rites Held Tuesday
Funeral services were conducted at the Friends church in Hesper on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Mr. Fred Allen, 74,a resident of that village, who succumbed at the Lutheran hospital in La Crosse on Friday, October 8. Miss Naomi Olsen, assisted by Rev. A.R. Kottke, officiated. Interment was made in the family lot in the Hesper Public cemetery.
Fredrick Henry Allen, son of John and Susan (Darrington) Allen, was born in Highland township, Winneshiek county, Iowa, June 19, 1871. He moved with his parents to the village of Hesper, when a small child, and had lived there the rest of his life. He never married. He was an industrious man, and had worked as a laborer in the community all his life.
Four years ago the departed became afflicted with a throat ailment, and entered the Lutheran hospital at La Crosse, where he sought medical aid, and for a time seemed improved. He re-entered the hospital again two weeks ago, where he submitted to an operation, from which he never recovered.
Those left to mourn his passing are four sisters, Mrs. G.R. (Anna) Tabor, San Bernadino, Cal.; Mrs. D.J. (Jennie) Welch, Mabel; Mrs. Oscar J. (Amy) Reed, Austin; Mrs. W.E. (Esther) Johnson, Boulder, Colo.; two brothers, Thomas, Highland township and Albert, Caledonia; also 25 nieces and nephews.
His parents and three sisters, Mrs. H.A. (Grace) Noecker, Nerissa and Bessie Allen, preceded him in death.
