Winfred Eugene Johnson of 2143 Pine, retired school custodian, died at his home at 6:30 this morning. He was 85.

Mr. Johnson was born in Hesper, Iowa, Oct. 28, 1878 and married there Nov. 27, 1900, to Esther Eleanor Allen. They came to Boulder from Iowa in May of 1909 and had lived here ever since. For 35 years, Mr. Johnson was custodian for Lincoln and Foothill Schools. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and of the First Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife: a son Kenneth A. Johnson of Fort Collins, who is clerk of the district court there; a daughter, Mrs. Lew(Lucretia) Mayhew of Dumont; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Bryant of Decorah, Iowa, and Mrs. Nina Olson of Houston, Minn. There are three grandsons and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Howe Mortuary with Dr. Rufus Baker officiating. Interment will be in Green Mountain. Friends are requested to omit flowers
