Here is the Obituary for Mathilda: May 1973, Mrs. Mathilda Brenna, 90, died Friday, May 18, at Tweeten Memorial hospital in Spring Grove where she had been taken earlier that day following a heart attack.

The former Mathilda Usgaard, she was born April 18, 1883, in Hesper township, Winneshiek county, Ia., the daughter of Lars and Carrie (Anderson) Usgaard. She attended the rural schools in Hesper Township. On October 5, 1904, she married Edward Brenna. They lived on a farm near Mabel until retiring and moving to Mabel. Since 1966, she had been a resident at Green Lea Manor nursing home. She was a member of the Mabel First Lutheran church.

Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. LeRoy (Luella) Hellikson, Minneapolis; Mrs. Allen (Clara) LeSage, Franklin, Mich.; Mrs. Ronald (Edna) Dahl, Fortuna, N.D., Mrs. Henry (Anita) Krueger, Caledonia, Minn., one son, Leonard, Mabel; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry, Twin Valley, Minn., and Peter, Fargo, N.D. Her husband, two sisters and one brother and one grandchild preceded her in death.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mabel First Lutheran church. The Rev. Larry Koehn officiated. Burial was in the Hesper Lutheran cemetery.
