Mrs. Ida Selness, 81, of Hesper died Monday at the home of her daughter in Washington, IA., where she had resided for several months, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hesper Lutheran church. The Rev. Virtus Stoffregen will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The former Ida Josvanger, she was born May 27, 1887, in Madison Township, Winneshiek County, Ia., the daughter of Hans O. and Isabel (Bakken) Josvanger. She was educated in the rural schools and at Decorah, after which she taught school. On Jan. 1, 1918, she married Carl Selness of Hesper township. They farmed near Hesper. He died Nov. 20, 1931. She was a member of the Hesper Lutheran church and its ALCW.

Survivors are two sons, Norman, Elkhart, Ind., Lowell, Mabel; two daughters, Mrs. Gene (Alice) Anderson, Mr. Pleasant, Ia., Mrs. Glen (Lois) Williams; 17 grandchildren; one brother, H.O. Josvanger, Racine, WI.; three sisters, Mrs. Oscar Aspenson, Sr., Mrs. Sid Ruth and Mrs. Isabel Opsahl, all of Decorah. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
