Here is the obituary for Anton J. Smith, Thursday, 5 April, 1917, Deer Creek Mirror: Another Sudden Death Near Parkton, Last Friday afternoon Anton J. Smith, well known in this Village as he often came here to transact business, died rather suddenly at his home near Parkton. In company with James Mc Laughlin, Mr. Smith had gone to a meadow to measure up some hay. While at the haystack he walked around to to the opposite side of stack. As he did not return as soon as Mr. Mc Laughlin thought he should he went around to see what had happened and found him lying on the ground. He spoke to him and found him still conscious. He asked if he was sick and Mr. Smith replied that he was. As he was unable to get up Mr. McLaughlin hurried to the house for the team to bring him home and when he got back to him he was unconscious and died at 5 p.m. that evening. Mrs. Smith was at Minneapolis visiting some of their children who reside there. She was telephoned for and came home accompanied by some of her children Saturday evening. The funeral was held at the Norwegian Lutheran church at Leaf Lake on Tuesday, and interment was at the family lot, at the Norderhaug cemetery.
