Sidney O. “Sid” Aasum, 80, of Caledonia, Minn., died Friday, March 6, 2009, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born May 1, 1928, in Spring Grove, Minn., to Sverre and Emma (Skorgen) Aasum. Sid was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany from November of 1954 until September of 1956. On March 16, 1957, he married Barbara Lee at the Stone Church in Houston, Minn., and she preceded him in death on March 6, 1988. On August 26, 1994, Sid married Beverly Lerol-Erickson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia. Sid was employed as a mason and carpenter for Nelson Construction in Caledonia and then Standard Lumber Company in Caledonia until its closing. He continued working as a self-employed carpenter with Meiners Lumber in Caledonia until 2000. Sid was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Loveless-Eikens American Legion Post #191, both in Caledonia.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Caledonia; four children: Sherree (John) Koch and Randy (Jolene) Aasum, both of Caledonia; Lori (Doug) Meyer, Eitzen, Minn.; and Nathan (Robyn) Aasum, Marshall, Minn; four step-children: Sue (Lyle) Klug, Caledonia; Peter (fiancee, Rose) Erickson, Peterson, Minn.; Arlene Francois, Chino Hills, Calif.; and David Erickson, Caledonia; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and a twin sister, Signe Housker, Mabel, Minn. In addition to his first wife, Sid was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bernard Housker. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Rev. Steven E. Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with military honors by the Caledonia American Legion Post #191. Friends may call at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Caledonia, is in charge of arrangements.
