Here is the obituary for Carl Aasum as recorded in the Mabel Record, Dec 18, 1969: Carl Aasum, 78, Mabel, died Tuesday evening, Dec. 9, at Green Lea Manor nursing home where he had resided the past few years.

He was born Jan. 4, 1891, on a farm near Mabel, the son of Ole and Ellen (Selness) Aasum, and spent all his life in the Mabel and Hesper communities. He was a veteran of World War I, and was a 50-member of the Joseph B. Lund Post of the American Legion at Mabel. He was a retired farmer and a member of Hesper Lutheran Church. On Nov. 17, 1923, he married Palma Tingesdal. She died Jan. 26, 1941.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Merlin F. (Evelyn) Hanson, Mabel; three grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Clarence (Emma) Iverson, Mabel; a brother, Sverre, Caledonia, a half brother, N.P. Thorson, Decorah, Iowa. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Hesper Lutheran Church. the Rev. Virtus Stoffregen officiated. Military rites were in charge of the Joseph B. Lund Post of the American Legion. Burial was in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Mengis funeral Home after 2 p.m. Thursday.
