Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Hesper Friends church for Nels Nelson, 63, who died Tuesday, Jan 22, at Green Lea Manor nursing home where he had been a resident three and a half years. Pastor David Runyon officiated. Burial was in the Hesper public cemetery.

He was born Sept.13, 1916 in Highland Township, Winneshiek County, Ia., the son of Nels and Flora (Darrington) Nelson. He attended the Grindeland rural school. Prior to his illness, he was employed by the Kepp Construction Co., of Rochester, Minn., for 20 years. A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Joseph B. Lund American Legion Post 299 of Mabel, and the Local Labor Union no. 1316, Winona. He never married.

Survivors are two brothers; Guy and Norvel, both of Mabel; three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Thompson, Austin, Minn., Mrs. Ruby Halse, Burr Oak, Ia., and Mrs. Andrew (Nina) Folkedahl, Hesper, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

The Mengis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
