Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hesper Lutheran church for Knute Sanden Sr. 95, who died Thursday evening at the Smith Memorial hospital in Decorah.
The Rev. Allen Hermeier officiated. Burial was in the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery.
He was born April, 1870, in Heidal, Norway, the son of Ole and Ronnog (Aspen) Sanden. He was baptized and confirmed at the Heidal church in Norway. In 1892, he married Mari Pladsen. To this union five children were born. In April, 1903, they came to the United States, settling at Prosper, Minn. For the past 55 years he had been a resident of Hesper.
During his lifetime, he was engaged in the trade of stone mason. Mrs. Sanden died Jan. 8, 1918.
On March 24, 1924, he married Mrs. Kristine Brenna of Mabel. They became the parents of three daughters.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Ole and Knute Jr. of Hesper; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Grindeland, Spring Grove; Mrs. Harry (Clara) Welper and Mrs. Norris (Ruby) Erlandson, Mabel; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren; two step daughters, Mrs. Leroy Street, Mabel, and Mrs. Ole Sanden of Hesper.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a son, Olaf, two daughters in infancy, one brother, and five sisters.
