Knute K. Sanden, 85, Mabel, died Saturday morning, Jan, 19, at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel where he had been a resident the past year.
He was born May 23, 1899, in Heidal, Gudbrandsdalen, Norway, the son of Knute and Mari (Pladsen) Sanden. He came to the United States with his parents in 1903, settling near Hesper, Ia., where he lived until 1979 when he moved to Mabel.
He attended the Hesper public school, and was a member of the Hesper Lutheran church, of which he was a past custodian.
On Sept. 26, 1919, he married Nora Nelson at Decorah, Ia. They lived all their married life in Hesper. She died in July, 1979. He was engaged as a stone mason and carpenter until retiring.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Claxton, Joplin, Mo.; one son, Delmar, Mabel; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sister, Mrs. Mary Grindeland, Decorah, Ia., Mrs. Clara Welper, Mabel; a half sister, Mrs. Norris (Ruby) Erlandson, Mabel; two step-sisters, Mrs. Lueda Street and Mrs. Calma Sanden both of Hesper.
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by a grandson and two brothers.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, at 2 p.m. at the Hesper Lutheran church. Pastor Marilyn Hanson will officiate. Burial in the church cemetery. Visitation at the Mengis Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before services at the church, day of services.
