Here is the obituary for Belva as it appeared in the Mabel Record on Friday the 10th of June, 1988: Belva Welch of Mabel dies at age 100.

Mabel --- Belva Welch, 100, a long-time Mabel area farm home maker, died Thursday at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.

Born Belva Golberg on May 31, 1888, in Hesper Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, she attended Shea School and Hesper Public School. On Feb. 15, 1911, she married Frank Welch and the couple farmed in Hesper Township, then in Newburg Township in Fillmore County until his death Nov. 18, 1956.

Mrs. Welch was a Gold Star Mother and a member of the Friends Church.
Survivors include four grandchildren: eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Pearson of Santa Monica, Calif., and Mamie Kempa of Mabel; and a brother, Victor Golberg of La Crescent. Two sons, two sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hesper Friends Church with the REv. Keith Mardock officiating. Burial will be in Hesper Public Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and an
hour before the service at the church Sunday.
