Born on the first day of February, 1915, at Hesper Township, Winnesheik County, Iowa. The son of William R. and Belva (Golberg) Welch. Baptized by Rev. Mettam, Methodist Pastor at Mabel, Minn. Received religious training at the Friends Church, Hesper, Iowa. Attended Mabel Public Schools.
Inducted in the U.S. Army, March 5, 1942, at Fort Des Moines, Iowa. Served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater operation. Wearer of the American Theatre of War, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of War ribbons, Philippine Liberation medal with two battle stars, and was awarded the Purple Hear posthumously. Gave last full measure of devotion at Mintal, Mindinao, P.I. on the 10 day of May, 1945. Buried with full military honors at Banco, Mindinao, P.I.
Memorial Services held on Armistice Day, November, 11, 1945, at the Friends Church, Hesper, Iowa. The Joseph P. Lund Post presided over Taps and the Military Salute to their fallen comrade.
