J.C. Reid dies on Wednesday April of 1931. John C. Reid, justice of the peace and assessor
in the village of Mabel, died at the Mabel hotel Wednesday afternoon, after about a week of severe illness. Funeral services will be held tomorrow and interment will be in the Hesper public cemetery. Mr. Reid was about 67 years old.
The deceased had resided in this neighborhood for more than 60 years, ever since he came here with his parents. He was born in Rock county, Wis., from which place the family came to this neighborhood. The family settled on a farm, and Mr. Reid spent a large part of his life at farmwork.
His parents preceded him in death many years ago.
About 30 years ago he moved into the village where he resided up to his death. The last eight years of his life were spent at the Mabel hotel. He assisted as hotel clerk, in addition to his work as village assessor and justice of the peace.
This man had a good humor about him that won him many friends. The public had perfect confidence in his ability and willingness to perform faithfully the functions of public trust placed on him.

Among these are the following local citizens: W.R. Welch, Mrs. L.J. Antrim, D.J. Welch, Mrs. Jane Stroud, and J. D. Welch. One cousin, Mrs. Geo. E. Wells, died Friday.
