George E. Wells obituary, from the Mabel Record of 23 Oct. 1931

George E. Wells, 78, retired farmer, was found dead on the road south of town Saturday afternoon. Mabel, 1931. Our community was saddened Saturday afternoon when it was learned that George Wells had been found dead by the side of the road not far from the windmill on the J.K. Stroud farm south of Mabel.
Mr. Wells owned the old Welch homestead on the State Line, between here and Hesper. He left the farm, a couple of years ago and moved into Hesper, as both his own and his wife's health were failing. His wife died this spring and since then he has been dividing his time between his own home and that of his daughter, Mrs. Amos Moore near Harmony, spending most of his time at the Moore home of late.

He had been ill for a long time, and was walking from his farm toward Mabel when his death came.

He was staying near Harmony at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Moore, but had been down, at Hesper and had dinner with the tenants on his farm the day of his death.

Funeral services were held at the Mabel M.E. church Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. R. F. Halberg in charge, assisted by Rev. Lyle Jones. Interment was in the Hesper public cemetery.

George E. Well was born May 6, 1853, at Long Island, New York. He was married December 24, 1885, to Margret M. Welch, who preceded him in death April 24, 1931.

Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Wells; one daughter, Birdie M., with whom he made his home after his wife's death; and a son Charlie, who died at the age of 25. Besides his daughter, he is survived by four sisters and two brothers.
