Nov 1956. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hesper Friends church for Frank D. Welch, 69, who died suddenly of a heart attack Sunday evening at his home. Miss Naomi Olsen officiated. Burial was in the Hesper public cemetery.
Mr. Welch was born Aug. 14, 1887, in Hesper Township, Winneshiek County, IA., the son of William and Anne (Darrington) Welch. He attended the Hesper public schools. On Feb. 15, 1911, he married Belva Golberg. They spent their married life farming in the Mabel area. For 27 years he served as an auxiliary mail carrier out of the Mabel post office. He was a former supervisor of Newburg township. Survivors are his wife; one son Norman of Mabel; three grand children; one sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Fannie) Iverson of Mabel. One son Leon was killed May 10, 1945, during World War II. He was also proceeded in death by his parents and two brothers. From the Welch collection.
