Cora's Obituary from the Harmony News-Mabel Record, April 18, 1996

Cora Lee Darrington, 95, formerly of Mabel, died Thursday, April 11, 1996, at Tweeten/Lutheran Health Care Center in Spring Grove.

She was born on Feb. 16, 1901, at Mabel, the daughter of Tollef and Gena (Bagley) Lee. She was a graduate of Mabel High School in 1920 and Winona Teachers College in 1922. She taught school in Wells, Minn., and Decorah. On Oct. 23, 1924, she married Willard Darrington at Mabel. They farmed in the Hesper area until retiring and moving to Mabel in 1980. He died on Jan. 27, 1990. She was a member of the Hesper Lutheran Church and its ELCA.

Survivors are three children, Dean (daughter-in-law Shirley M.) of Mabel, Harriet Hoff (son-in-law Lyle) of Minnetonka, Minn., Davis (daughter-in-law Shirley L.) of Green Bay, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, Julie Kay Laisy of Hopkins, Minn., Dean Darrington of Mabel, Joan Smith of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Edward Darrington of Brookings, S.D., Kathy Goffeney of Bloomington, Minn.; Susan Harberts, David Hoff of Eden Prairie, Minn., Mark Darrington, Avon, Colo., Paul Darrington of Sussex, Wis., Chris Darrington of Avon, Colo.; 17 great-grandchildren, Matthew Laisy, Rebecca Laisy, Andrew Darrington, Melissa Darrington, Patrick Darrington, Amy Smith, Marie Smith, Paul James Smith, Joseph Darrington, Heidi Darrington, Michelle Gaffeney, Paul Gaffeney, Brian Harberts, Brandon Harberts, Mikayla Hoff, Jordon Darrington, Davis Darrington; one sister Verna Hahn of Oshkosh, Wis., one brother, Byron Lee (sister-in-law Stella) of Mabel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard J., and two brothers, Odell and Irvin.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper, the Rev. Jim Cherry officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mengis Funeral Home, Mabel was in charge of arrangements.
