Here is the Obituary for Jennie Welch, 12 Nov. 1970. Funeral services were conducted at the Mabel United Methodist church at 2 p.m. Saturday for Mrs. Jennie Welch, 100, who died at the Caledonia nursing home Thursday evening, Nov, 12, where she had resided the past two years. The Rev. K. Roger Johnson of Caledonia officiated. Burial was in the Hesper Public cemetery.

The former Jennie Allen, she was born Nov. 28, 1869, in Bedfordshire, England, the daughter of John and Susan (Darrington) Allen. At the age of four, she came to the United States, settling on a farm east of Hesper. She attended the Hesper Public School. On May 24, 1893, she married David M. Welch. They spent all their married life on a farm one mile south of Mabel. Mr. Welch died June 28, 1939. In 1957 she moved to Caledonia to live with her daughter. She was member of the Mabel United Methodist church, and had been a member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge for
70 years. Survivors are a son, Myron, Mabel; a daughter, Mrs. Oscar J. (Evelyn) Olson, Caledonia; 9 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren, and a sister Mrs. Esther Johnson, Boulder, Colorado. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter Eva, three brothers and 3 sisters. The casket bearers were David Olson, Reginald Olson, Glen St. Mary, Newton Michelsen, Lorren Tingesdal and Donald Welch. From the Welch collection.
