Here is the Obituary for David James Welch, 28, June 1939, As simply and as calmly as he lived among us, Dave Welch answered the call to enter God's spiritual Kingdom on the morning of Wednesday, June 28. friends, neighbors and relatives gathered at the farm home Saturday afternoon at 2:30, and led by Rev. D.S. Tyron, lifted their hearts in common respect and love for a fine soul, and bade Dave "Godspeed." His body was then carried to its resting place in the Hesper, cemetery, his spirit commended to God. At the services the Woodman trio, Willard Munson, Bartlett White and Odell Lee, sang the "The Old Rugged Cross" and "No Night There".

Dave Welch was born on a farm in Newburg township in the year 1866, the son of David and Margaret Welch and had reached the age of 72 years, 11 months, and 18 days. May 24, 1893 he was united in marriage with Jennie Allen. Three children were born to this couple, a son, Myron, now of Decorah, Iowa, and two daughters, Evelyn (Mrs. Oscar Olson) of Mabel and Eva Mildred, who preceded Dave in death in 1897 at the age of four months. Dave is survived by his wife, two children eight grand-children, one brother, John, of Hesper, and two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Babcock of Elliott, North Dakota and Mrs. Jane Stroud of Mabel. Three sisters, Margaret, Mary, Katherine, and one brother, William, preceded him in death. He also leaves behind a host of relatives and friends. From the Welch collection.
