LaVonne M. 'Bonnie' Benson -- Mabel
Mabel-- Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper, Iowa, for LaVonne M. "Bonnie" Benson, 67, of Rochester, formerly of Mabel. Mrs. Benson died Friday (Dec. 17, 1999) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester. The Rev Hans Floan will officiate, and burial will be in Hesper Lutheran Cemetery.

La Vonne Aasum was born April 7, 1932, in Iowa. She graduated from Mabel High School in 1950. In 1953, she married Jimmie Benson at Hesper Lutheran Church. They were divorced in 1970.

She lived in the Mabel area until 1982, after which she lived in various places before moving to Rochester in 1994, where she had resided since.

She was a member of Hesper Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, sewing and cooking.

Survivors include two sons, Randy and Rick Benson, both of Mabel, three daughters, Rosilee (Mrs. Bruce) Brock of Lake Charles, La., Rosslyn (Mrs. Chris) Tranaas of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Lisa (Mrs Mike) Johnson of Canton; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, David Aasum of Rochester and Llewellyn Aasum of Mabel; three sisters, Mavis (Mrs. Ronald) Kolman and Elaine (Mrs. Harold) Sand, both of Mabel, and Priscilla (Mrs. (Gerald) Redwing of Hastings.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and for an hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
