Here is the Obituary for Harold: Harold Sever Selness, age 80, of rural Spring Grove, MN, died Friday, November 22, 2002, at Zumbrota Community Hospital in Zumbrota, MN., from a lengthy illness of pneumonia.

He was born July 7, 1922, on his home farm in Winneshiek County, Iowa, to Thomas and Caroline (Haukedahl) Selness. He was life long area resident. Harold was a 1940 graduate of Spring Grove High School. He was member of the Army Aircorps, serving in England during World War II in the 1940's.

On November 9, 1947, he married Helen Marjorie Dahl: she preceded him in death in April of 1967. He farmed his entire life. Harold was a member of Highland Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove, he was commander of the Mabel Legion, was a lifelong member of the VFW, and had served on the Mabel Telephone Company board for many years.

He is survived by eight sons: Bert of Mabel, MN; Gary (Kristy) of Zumbrota, MN; Steven of Wyoming, MN.; Mark of Vadnais Heights, MN.; Eric (Wendy) of Spring Grove; Rolf (Michelle) of Ham Lake, MN.; Todd of Rochester, MN.; and David of Burnsville, MN; eight daughters; Paula (Bob) Vogt, Sunday (Renn) De Boer, and Barbara (Timothy) Lund, all of Rochester, MN.; Karen (Al) Erickson of Decorah, IA; Diane (Tom) Poirier of Canton, MN.; Caroline (Kevin) Posterick of Ham Lake, MN.; Ruth (Daniel) Sponsel of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; and Wendy (Mark) Willner of New Brighton, MN.; 24 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother Roald (La Vonne) Selness of Mabel, MN.; two sisters Martha Henzler of Spring Grove, MN.; and Ruth (Gordon) Ganrud of Loveland, CO. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, two brothers, and two grand children.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 26 at 2 p.m. at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Spring Grove with Pastor David H. Andreae officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Friends called at the Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. Roble Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Spring Grove Herald
