Mrs. Caroline Dahl was born at Leksvik, Throndheim, Norway, on the first day of may, 1888, and died on the fourth day of April, 1945 at Spring Grove. Her life-line measured but 56 years, 11 months and 4 days. Her parents were Johan Arnt and Marie Stenkjar. Her days of childhood and youth were lived in that most beautiful section of central Norway, in and near the city of Throndheim. She records which she has kept show that she was baptized by Pastor Fredricksen, confirmed by Pastor Wormdahl and married by Pastor Johannes Float in the Cathedral church at Throndheim. There were besides Caroline, five other girls in the Stenkjar family namely; Margret, Anna, Ingeborg, Hedvig and Mary. Since the war and the invasion of Norway, we have no information as to the family.

Caroline attended the common school in her home district after which she worked as a domestic servant in or near the city of Throndheim.

Her husband, Bertin Dahl, came to America from Leksviken as a young man. After a few years he returned to the home land. While at home he met and married Caroline, the nuptials being solemnized as mentioned in the church at Throndheim. Directly afterwards Mr. Dahl and his bride embarked for America, and came to the town of Hesper, Winnesheik County, Iowa.

Since 1917 the Dahl family has operated a farm two and one half miles south east of Hesper, first as renters and in later years as owners.

The following children were born to them; John Melvin, Mabel; Sverre with colors in Europe; Carl Berner, Mabel; one child died in infancy. The following remain on the home farm; Arnold Ingolph, Maurice Julian and one daughter, Helen Marjorie.
