Here is the obituary for Sverre Dahl Sr. as recorded in the Oct. 23, 1980
Mabel Record. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Oct. 17, at 10:30
a.m. at the Hesper Lutheran church for Sverre Dahl, Sr., 63, who died at
his home in Hesper Tuesday, Oct. 14. The Rev. Bernhardt Polesky
officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. He was born Sept. 29, 1917
in Hesper Township, Winneshiek County, IA., the son of Bert and Caroline
(Stenkjar) Dahl. He attended the Rotvold school in Hesper township. He
farmed in the Mabel area most of his life. A veteran of World War II, he
was a member of the Joseph B. Lund Post of the American Legion and the
Kittleson-Onsgard VFW Post in Mabel. He was a member of the Hesper
Lutheran church. He married Norma Bjertness July 3, 1949. Survivors are
two sons, Sverre Jr., Hesper, IA., Charles, Mabel; one daughter, Mrs. Carl
(Bonnie) Hammon, Wykoff, MN; 5 grandchildren; four brothers, Melvin and
Bernard, Mabel, Arnold, Waterloo, IA, Maurice, Decorah, IA. He was
preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one brother and a sister. The
Mengis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
