Ruby M. Murphy died Friday morning, August 5, 1983 at Decorah, Iowa. She was born the daughter of the late Edward M. and Bertha (Hangartner) Powers on May 8, 1904, in rural Ossian, Military Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Ruby obtained her education by attending the DeSales School in Ossian. For several years she was a sales clerk at the Brink Variety Store in Ossian.
On January 15, 1927, she was united in marriage to William R. Murphy at St.Francis chapel in Ossian by the Rt.Rev.Msgr. M.J. Thiltgen. Through their entire 56 years of married life they made their home in Ossian, Iowa.
Ruby was a life time member of the St.Francis DeSales Parish and a member of the St.Francis Rosary Society. She, also, was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court 983 and the Altrua Club.
Survivors are her husband, William R. Murphy of Ossian; two daughters, Patricia (Mrs. Donald P. Burch) of Agoura, California and Ramona Drilling of Ossian, Iowa; two grandsons, Stephen and Kevin Burch; two granddaughters, Beth Ann and Susan Burch; one great-granddaughter, Melissa Burch; one brother, Brother Herbert Adrian, F.S.C. of Memphis, Tennessee; and two sisters, Nellie M. Horan of Waterloo, Iowa and Elizabeth Becker of Humboldt, Iowa.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Joseph Powers, and two sisters, Catherine Bray and Ann Hoisington.
Her body was donated to medical science and research. A memorial mass was held on Monday August 8, 1983 at 11:15 a.m. at St.Francis deSales Catholic Church with the Rev. Philip C.McDermott officiating.The organist was Debbie Scheidel.
