KNUDSVIG, ALVIN MILFRED

Alvin Knudsvig, a retired farmer and Winneshiek county highway worker, died July 18, 1970 in the Decorah hospital following an illness of three years. He was 73 years old. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon in the Ossian Lutheran Church by the Rev. A. Duane Manson. Mrs. Howard Knutson was the organist and accompanied the soloist, Mrs. A.Duane Manson. Burial was in the Stavanger Lutheran Church Cemetery with the following men serving as pallbearers: Donald Kleppe and William Pape, Jr. of West Union, Richard Keppler of Dubuque, Conley Linderbaum and Virgil Birdsell of Ossian and Louis Seitz of Farmersburg.

Alvin Milfred Knudsvig was born June 21, 1897 in Fayette County near Eldorado, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Knudsvig. He obtained an education by attending the rural schools near his home. In 1912 he moved to the Ossian area, where he spent the remainder of his life. On May 4, 1921, he married Miss Marie Amelia Larson in the Stavanger Lutheran Church. They became the parents of six children, all of whom survive. They are Alden L. Knudsvig of Clearfield, Utah, Ernest L. Knudsvig of Charles City, Jean Seery of Cedar Rapids, Parnell Knudsvig of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Arthalinda Kling of Ottawa, Illinois, and Lein Knudsvig of Vinton.

In addition to his sons and daughters, he is survived by his wife; 23 grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Peter Kleppe and Mrs. Carl Linderbaum, both of Ossian. Mr. Knudsvig farmed for many years before his retirement. He served several years on the Bloomfield township school board.
