Herman A. Gipp, one of Ossian's oldest residents, died Thursday at 12:30 am at his home here following a year's illness. He was 87 years old.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon in Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia by the Rev. Walter Pfeffer. Burial was in Bloomfield cemetery with the following men serving as pallbearers: Walter Tietz, Walter Koch, Edwin Ginapp, Eldo Lang, Erwin Heckman and Harry Schultz. Members of the flower committee were Lois Gipp, Linda Gipp, Sharon Gipp, and Mrs. Margaret Mundt. Sharon Schara was organist and accompanied the soloists; The Rev. and Mrs. Luther Monson of Navarino, Wis.

Herman A Gipp was born March 26, 1872 in Germany, a son of John and Caroline Gipp. As a young man he immigrated to the United States, settling first in Clayton County, where he worked five years on a farm. In 1899 he purchased a farm seven miles northeast of Ossian in the Frankville area, where he farmed until his retirement 16 years ago. At that time he moved to Ossian where he spent the remainder of his life.

On June 26th, 1902, he married Miss Johanna Hoth and to their union six children were born, all of whom survive. They are Ida of Ossian, Carl, Elmer and Alvin of Decorah, Edna (Mrs. Glen Mundt) of Ossian and Hazel of Cedar Rapids.

He is also survived by his wife, one brother, Will Gipp of Marion, one sister, Mrs. Chas. Wodrich of Owatonna, Minn., 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters and one brother.

Relatives and friends from a distance attending the funeral were the following: The Rev. and Mrs. Luther Monson and family of Navarino, Wis., Mrs. and Mrs. Marvin Mundt of Ames, Hazel Gipp of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wodrich, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Wodrich, Mrs. Elsie McCormick, Mrs. Erwin Kruse, Leo and Eldo Utpadel, all of Owatonna, Minn., Mrs. and Mrs. Wm.
