John Carl Henry Gipp died last Thursday, June 4, 1925, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Herman Pankow, in Frankville township, following three weeks' illness death being due to the infirmities of old age.

He was born June 6, 1845, in Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gipp. He spent his young manhood in his native country, where on October 9, 1868, he was united in marriage with Miss Caroline Vollbrecht. This union was blessed with nine children, as follows: Mrs. Rubenow, deceased; Mrs. Herman Pankow; Mrs. Chas. Vodrich; Mrs. William Utpadel; Herman Gipp; William Gipp; Fred Gipp; and two sons who died in infancy. The wife and mother passed away some time ago.

He emigrated to America and for seven years prior to coming to Winneshiek County he lived near Monona, where he followed the occupation of farming. March 1, 1894, he came to Winneshiek County, settling on the farm in Frankville Township, where he spent his declining days. Mr. Gipp was a member of the Lutheran church. He stood for progress and improvement along the lines which affect the general interests of society. He led a good life, such as to give him excellent standing in the eyes of the community. He was a faithful husband, a kind father and a good citizen, and his death is mourned by all who knew him.

The funeral service was held in Centennial church Saturday, June 6th, Rev. A. Hofener officiating. The casket bearers were grandsons of the deceased, as follows: Harvey Gipp; John Pankow; Otto Wodrich; Leo Utpadel; Carl Gipp; Elmer Gipp. Six granddaughters acted as flower girls.

Sudal, of Plainview, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Buggenhagen, Mr. and Mrs. Peter, of Cresco, Iowa; Mrs. Henry Willard of Ellendale, Minn.
