Clarion Jerome Hagelie

Clarion Hagelie, 70, of West Union, died Friday, June 22, 2001 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, following a sudden illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Dennis Hugdahl of St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Eldorado officiating.

Pallbearers were Dean Patrick, Dave Swale, Larry Zweibohmer, Kevin Weidemann, Ron Schute and Charles Shipton. Honorary Pallbearers were Lenny Strensland, Charles Weidemann, Robert Musser, Clarence Jorgenson, Warren Frey, Dave Schaller and Paul Weidemann.

Ushers were Norman Jones, Ray Krambeer and Kenny Springer. Organist was Barbara O'Kones, and vocalist was Dale Halverson.

Internment was in the West Union cemetery. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home of West Union was in charge of arrangements.

Clarion Jerome Hagelie was born May 27, 1931, to Clarence and Ellen (Thompson) Hagelie on a farm near Ossian.

He was baptized July 19, 1931 at First Lutheran Church in rural Ossian, and confirmed Oct. 28, 1945 at Bethany Lutheran Church of rural Ossian.

In 1949, he graduated from West Union High School. He married Barbara Hunsberger June 24, 1962 at Elgin Lutheran Church. This marriage was blessed with the birth of two children.

Clarion Hagelie was a faithful member and volunteer worker at Zion Lutheran Church, where; he had served on the church council and was involved in various other committees and boards.

Clarion Hagelie retired in 1993 after being employed 37 years at John Falb Co., as an auto mechanic.

Since retirement he had enjoyed getting to know the North Fayette students while driving a school bus.

He also assisted at funeral services at Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, and enjoyed having coffee and conversation with his friends.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Joyce Hagelie of Schaumburg, Illinois; a son, Jim Hagelie of Marshalltown; a sister, Carol Frana-Stevenson of Ottumwa; a brother, Dean Hagelie of Lodi, Calif., nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Clarion Jerome Hagelie was preceded in death by his parents.
