Donald Enos Bergan

Donald Bergan, 74, of Decorah, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis. following a short illness.

There was no visitation, as the body was cremated. Memorial services were held Friday May 26 at 1:30 p.m. at Decorah Lutheran Church, with Pastor Bryan Robertson officiating.

Organist was Kathy Murray and hymns included "Beautiful Savior" and "Children of the Heavenly Father". Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah was in charge of the arrangements.

Donald Enos Bergan was born Jan 21, 1927 in Decorah to Enos and Bertha (Knutson) Bergan.

He attended country school in Madison Township, Winneshiek County and high school Ridgeway.

He married Helen Ellingson August 15, 1948 at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Decorah.

Donald and Helen Bergan farmed in Madison Township until 1964. Donald Bergan then owned and operated Bergan Welding Supply Inc., in Spencer until retirement.

The couple spent their winters in Ariz., returning to Decorah in retirement.

Donald Bergan was a member of the Lions Club in Spencer, and he always enjoyed walking and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Bergan of Decorah; two daughters, Marsha Bergan of Iowa City and Karen Bergan and Dennis Nordern of Victor, Iowa; four sisters-in-law, lrene Tilleros of Decorah; Viola Ellingson of Waukon; Eleanor Ellingson of Decorah and Bernice Byrnes of Waukon; one brother-in-law, Ervin and Thelma Ellingson of Decorah and one sister, Cora Borlaug of Decorah.

Additional survivors include many nieces, nephews; grand nieces and grand nephews.

Donald Enos Bergan was preceded in death by his parents, Enos and Bertha Bergan; one son, Eric Bergan on Oct. 31, 1994, and one brother, Orvin Bergan.
