Myrtle Sobolik

Editor's Note: Decorah Newspapers recently received the following obituary.

Myrtle Sobolik, 81, of Mission Hills, Calif., and formerly of Decorah and Ridgeway, died Feb. 28, 2001 at Henry Mayo Hospital in New Hall, Calif.

Memorial services were held March 7 at Faith Chapel in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, Calif., where she was interred beside her husband, Edward Sobolik, who died in 1995.

Myrtle H. Running was born July 6, 1919 in Springfield, Frankville township to Henry and Minnie (Iverson) Running.

She was baptized and confirmed at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church by Rev. Paul Koren.

Myrtle Running attended Red Oak Country School and Decorah High School.

She married Edward Sobolik in the Washington Prairie Lutheran parsonage in 1936.

After farming in Ridgeway and Waukon for several years, the Soboliks relocated to Waterloo and then to California.

Survivors include a son, Gerald (Gary) Sobolik, a daughter, Linda and Mike Ellis of Arleta, Calif.; a sister, Amy Odden Olson of Milwaukee, Wis., and three grandchildren; one great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.

Myrtle H. Sobolik was preceded in death by her brother, Hartvig Running, in 1974 and her husband.
