Walter J. Ode
Walter Ode, 85, of Lanesboro, Minn., died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001 Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis., following a stroke.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 1 at Johnson-Riley Funeral Home in Lanesboro.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 2 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro, with Rev. Kerry Eversole officiating.
The pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Walter J. Ode was born March 14, 1915 in rural DECORAH to Paul and Clara (Nelson) Ode.
He married Mary Mundt on June 11, 1937 in CASTALIA.
They lived in rural DECORAH, where Walter Ode was a farmer and auctioneer, until 1947, when they moved to Lanesboro.
Walter Ode worked as owner and operator of Lanesboro Sales Commission with his cousin, Paul Evanson.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro, where he held a number of church offices.
Walter Ode served as a school board member, an officer of the Reginal Sales Barn Operators Association, and was an avid bowler, baseball fan and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Marvel Ode; three sons, Carson and Constance Ode of Des Moines; Gerald and Patricia Ode of Roseville, Minn.; and Wayne and Trudy Ode of St. Charles, Minn.; a daughter, Diane and Gary Roddy of Lanesboro; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Walter J. Ode was preceded in death by two daughters, four brothers and a sister.
