Rolf Lund
Rolf Lund, 83, of Forest City, died Feb. 23, 2001 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, with Rev. Stephen Lund and Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating.
Organist was Leonard Markusen and soloist was Margie Markusen.
Musical selections included "Thy Holy Wings," "Behold A Host," "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."
Honorary casket bearers were James Austin, Eugene Koltvet, Don Ringgenberg, Thomas Austin, Steven Koltvet, Richard Brooks, Michael Thompson and Arlan Stanheim.
Interment was at Holmes Lutheran Cemetery in Holmes, Iowa, with Peterson Lund Funeral Home of Forest City handling arrangements.
Rolf S. Lund was born, in Wanamingo, Minn., Sept. 7, 1917, the son of J. O. and Stella (Swenson) Lund.
He received his early education in Goodhue county schools and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1936.
Rolf Lund continued his education at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., receiving his degree in 1940.
He began teaching and coaching in Rake, Iowa. He met Bernice Koltvet there and on August 6, they were married at Holmes Lutheran Church in Holmes.
In 1946 Rolf Lund joined the faculty at Waldorf College in Forest City. He earned his master's degree in 1952 from the University of Minnesota.
He would teach and coach at Waldorf for the next 36 years until his retirement in 1982.
He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving on the council and on several committees.
Rolf Lund was an avid reader, enjoyed working outdoors, and was very involved with efforts to establish a Senior Center in Forest City.
He loved attending sporting events and treasured time spent with his grandchildren.
Surviving are a daughter Marcia and Del Johnson of Fergus Falls, Minn.; two sons, Mark and Sonja Lund of DECORAH and Stephen and Mary Lund of Norfolk, Neb.; a sister, Galene Berg of Zumbrota; eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Rolf S. Lund was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Bernice Lund, who died in 1997.
