Ed Loomis
Edward Lee Loomis, 68, of Lansing, died Oct. 26, 2000, at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport after a long battle with cancer.
Services were held Friday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Lansing with Rev. Henry Grant officiating Cremation followed and interment will be held at a later date.
Honorary pallbearers were Tyler Loomis, Ryan Loomis, Nick Loomis, Zach Loomis, Geno Ray Roderick, Cory Roderick and Jacob Hall, all grandsons.
Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing handled arrangements.
Edward Loomis was born June 13, 1932, in Rusk County, Wis. to Roy and Elgia Loomis. He attended school in Lansing and served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1949-52.
On Aug. 12, 1950, he married Marie Sheriff of Lansing in Jeffersonville, Ind.
They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary this past summer.
The couple lived in DECORAH from 1953 to 1974, where they owned and operated Ed's Commercial Refrigeration. During the years 1974-1979, Ed was maintenance supervisor for Nelco in Franklin, Ind. From 1979 to 1992, he worked as a maintenance engineer for Westinghouse in California.
After retirement, the couple moved back to Iowa and operated Loomis Landing, a marina in Andalusia, Illinois until his death.
Ed Loomis loved the Mississippi River and enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. He looked forward to his October elk hunting trips in Colorado with his sons and brothers-in-law.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; a sister, Betty; one brother, Ernie; four sons, Lee, Dennis, George and Tom; and one daughter, Jenine; 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
