Gordon Kenneth Osmundson

Gordon Kenneth Osmundson, 71, of West Union, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 30 at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union with Rev. Steve Delzer officiating.

Burial was at West Union Cemetery with Burnham-Wood Funeral Home handling arrangements. Organist was Barbara Temple and the vocalist was Doug Poppen.

Pallbearers were Jeff Anifson, Tim Anifson, Kurt Osmundson, Jeff Peck, Steve Peck and Greg Snitker.

Gordon Osmundson was born Aug. 6, 1929, to Knut and Stella (Eide) Osmundson in rural OSSIAN, WINNESHIEK County. He was baptized in Sept. of 1929 and confirmed his faith in Sept. 1943, both at First Lutheran Church in rural OSSIAN. He graduated from West Union High School in 1948. He farmed and then served in the U.S. Army from 1943-53. Upon his return, he continued farming.

On Sept. 14, 1958, he was united in marriage to Irma Anifson at the Stavanger Lutheran Church in rural OSSIAN. They had three children.

The couple farmed in the OSSIAN and West Union area until 1964. Osmundson was an egg hauler for Heying Chicks until 1971 and then was employed as a custodian at West Union Elementary School for 19 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church, St. Olaf Lutheran Church of West Union and Zion Lutheran Church.

Due to failing health, he was limited in his activities during his retirement years; however, he enjoyed fishing, camping, collecting toy tractors, playing cards and visiting family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Irma; three children and their spouses, Derwin and Dawn Osmundson and Elaine and Brent Hanson of West Union, and Sharon and Lowell Houg of Elgin; five grandchildren, Dacia and Danny Osmundson, Thomas Hanson and Jenna and Quinton Houg; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
