Elmer Hauge, 66, a well known resident of Ossian, died suddenly Friday, August 15, 1969, at the Decorah Hospital where he had been a patient only four days. Mr. Hauge suffered a heart attack Tuesday and his condition was slightly better until he was stricken with another attack at the hospital Friday.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon by the Rev. M.J. Vettrus of West Union. Early services were held in the Schmitz funeral home with later services taking place at the First Lutheran church south of Ossian. Members of Brockman-Hammersland American Legion post were in charge of burial rites at the First Lutheran cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Carey, Robert Lansing, Harold Scheidel, Ed Schroeder, Roman Ott, and Melvin Buddenberg. Organist during the church service was Mrs. Helen Guyer. Soloists were Mrs. Ervin Johnson and Sheryl Kleppe. Members of the floral committee were Mrs. Don Wessels, Mildred Quass, Mrs. Jos. H. Funke and Mrs. Lillian Anfinson.

Elmer Hauge was born south of Ossian on February 15, 1903, a son of the late Tollef and Anna Hauge. He spent his entire life in this vicinity, obtaining an education by attending the elementary schools here. During World War II he served in the army. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Alma Osterhus, of Ossian, four nieces, four nephews, 10 great-grand nieces and six great grand nephews.
