Edward Wagner
Edward Wagner, 85, of rural Fort Atkinson, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, from injuries sustained in a car accident a week earlier.
Edward George Wagner was born on Feb. 21, 1915 on the farm of his parents; James and Mary (Vsetecka) Wagner of rural Fort Atkinson. Edward attended Winneshiek County School.
On April 14, 1936 he married Gladys Huber at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. To this union seven children were born: Darrell, Judith, Rick, Jim, Jeanne, Janice and Randy. Edward and Gladys would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on April 14, 2001.
They farmed for 12 years and then moved to Spillville for three years. In 1959 they purchased their current farm.
In addition to farming Edward worked for Winneshiek County doing road maintenance. He loved to go to farm sales to buy or sell machinery. Edward was always seen with his pet dog Buffy, He enjoyed going out to eat and spending time with family.
Edward is survived by his wife, Gladys; four sons, Darrell and Jo Ann Wagner of Calmar; Rick and Myrna Wagner of Cresco; Jim and Nancy Wagner of Cedar Rapids and Randy and Cheryl Wagner of Fort Atkinson; and two daughters, Jeanne and Konrad Verlsteffen of Coral Springs, Fla., and Janice and Mark Balk of Waucoma.
Edward is also survived by a son-in-law, Dennis Reicks of Cresco; a sister, Viola and Dick Wiltgen of Calmar; 26 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Preceding Edward in death were a daughter, Judith Reicks, on August 18, 2000; his parents, John and Mary; a sister, Mary Ann Leibold; brothers Clarence and Roman and a brother in infancy.
