Albertona Wenthold

Sister Albertona Wenthold, OP, 95, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at Lakeshore Manor, Racine, Wis.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held Sunday, Feb. 20, at 4:30 p.m., with the Rev. Al Metzger, OSA, presiding.

Interment was at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Highway 82. The Maresh-Meredith and Acklam Funeral Home of Racine, Wis., handled arrangements.

Born April 18, 1904, as Theola Marie, the daughter of William and Frances (Mehs) Wenthold, she lived in FESTINA until she joined the Racine Dominicans Sept 12, 1921. She received the religious name Sister Albertona at her reception July 8, 1922.

Sister Albertona had a long career in education and educational administration having spent 66 years teaching in junior and senior high school. In Racine, she taught at St. Catherine High School and at Holy Trinity School. Other places in Wisconsin were St. Sebastian, Sturtevant, St. John, Little Chute, St. Anthony and St. Therese, Kenosha. She taught at Nativity High School and Assumption Grotto School in Detroit, Mich., at St. Clement, Center Line, Mich., and at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Santa Fe, New Mexico.

She retired to Siena Center in 1991 and became a resident at Lakeshore Manor Jan. 24, 1995.

Sister Albertona is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Sister Albertona Wenthold, OP, was preceded in death by her parents; her three brothers, Henry, Theodore and Raymond; and her sisters, Julia, Laurene, Regina and the four oldest girls who died in infancy.
